If exotic animals are your wild thing— or someone in your home’s thing — the Indianapolis Marion County Public Library branches have a treat this summer.
Teaming up with Animalia, the IMCPL offers Critter Chats, where experts bring in the animals for kids (and their adults) to get to know up close and personal. Hedgehogs, snakes … the visitor is a surprise, but the June dates and locations are not:

Meanwhile, if you crave a larger thrill—meaning your wild things need more animals to keep them occupied—the Indianapolis Zoo hosts Community Tuesday the first Tuesday of every month this summer with only $8 per person admission. The gate price is normally $16.95 ($14.95 if you buy your tickets online.) It’s a great discount for a zoo that has been ranked among the top 10 in the nation. Officials urge you to come early in the day so you won’t miss any of the animals that move inside in the afternoon heat.
Community Tuesdays are sponsored by Community Health Network.
