Sometimes, a weekend is a great time to relax and recuperate after a long week. Every now and then, you need time to recharge the batteries and refuel for the week to come. This particular weekend, however, you have more time to relax and a shorter coming week to refuel for. So you can still recuperate and yet not miss at least one of two Labor Day-related festivals taking place this weekend.
Both of these FREE festivals take place on Saturday, August 31. First, there’s the Indianapolis Labor Fest. From 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., you can head downtown to enjoy family friendly entertainment on Georgia Street between Meridian Street and Capitol Avenue. The kids will have a zone to themselves while you take in the entertainment and food. The Indianapolis Labor Fest replaces the traditional Labor Day Parade this year.
The second FREE event is Gateway Fest. From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Southern Plaza will play host to an art fair and marketplace, a bicycle ride, and the Miracle Mile parade. While all of the festivities are going on, you can enjoy food and listen to the sounds coming from the live music festival. The early part of the day takes place at 4200 East Street. Later on in the evening, the Gateway Fest shifts to Garfield Park for fireworks just after dusk. Both events are also expected to feature appearances from Boomer and some of the Indiana Pacemates.
You can attend either (or both) of these Labor Day festivals for FREE and still have time to lay around and watch TV all day on Sunday and/or Monday. Basically, everyone wins on this three-day weekend.
