July 4th is only one day, but the celebration of Independence Day goes on all week. Many people will be taking time off of work this week to turn July 4th into a long weekend. However, you don’t have to wait until Thursday to enjoy some FREE fun. We know of three events you can attend on Wednesday, July 3 to start the party early this year.
The first of these events is a FREE concert in Eagle Creek Park. Located at 5901 Delong Road in the northwest quadrant of Indianapolis, Eagle Creek Park is just one of the many Indy Parks that will be holding FREE concerts during the summer. Keep an eye out next Monday for our weekly post on FREE concerts. The one this week at Eagle Creek Park is titled In Concert with Nature, and features Hogeye Navvy. It’s FREE as long as you pay park admission.
The second event on Wednesday, July 3 is in Franklin. The Firecracker Festival takes place at the Indiana Masonic Home. Earlier in the day (from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to be specific), you can wear a red, white, or blue swim suit to get in FREE at the Franklin Family Aquatic Center. The Franklin Community Band will be on hand in the early evening to put on a performance, you can hang around for a FREE outdoor concert by Parrots of the Caribbean (a Jimmy Buffett tribute show) from 7:30 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., and then stay to enjoy the finale. At 10:10 p.m., you can watch the firework show.
The other opportunity you have to catch a FREE fireworks show before July 4th is at dusk that night in Sara Bolton Park. The park is located at 13th and Churchman Avenue in Beech Grove.
