I hate it when folks hit me up for a donation. It’s awkward. It may not be my cause.
But as a cop’s kid, I personally wanted to get involved in community efforts to support the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. If that strikes a similar chord with you, this post is for you. If it doesn’t, I give you permission to move on and not feel guilty.
For starters, the FOP is selling t-shirts supporting Officer Perry Renn with the poignant slogan “I Will Always Get Out of My Car.” In the first two days, they’ve sold 2,500 t-shirts to the public, and lines are forming. So forgive them if they are a bit backed up—they aren’t experienced in merchandise sales—but don’t give up. You can purchase your t-shirt in person for $15 at the FOP headquarters at 1525 S. Shelby Street between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Proceeds go to the Indianapolis Police Foundation, which is a resource to help the spouses and children of fallen officers.
Or, you can order online and pay an additional $5 shipping.

If the price is beyond your budget or you have a drawer already overflowing with t-shirts, you can grab a meal at one of three area Golden Corrals (E. Washington Ave. in Indianapolis, Marlin Dr. in Greenwood and Hadley Rd. in Plainfield) and the restaurant will give 10% of your bill to IMPD’s east district. All you need to do is bring along the designated voucher:
Donate 10% of my meal to IMPD, Golden Corral.
The offer is good through September 1, so you have an opportunity to give back more than once.
