Summer is quickly approaching here in Indianapolis, and we want to point out all the fun opportunities that our local libraries have in store for this summer. We know that writing about every library’s unique offerings in one post would be overwhelming and lead to information overload. Therefore, we’re highlighting a different local library every day this week to give our Cheapsters a well-rounded preview of what’s happening this summer.
We will start today with the Carmel Clay Public Library. Carmel’s calendar is full of events for children, teenagers, and adults. Some of the periodic events you’ll have access to more than once this summer include ‘Passport to the Movies’, Mother-Daughter book reading night, Tech Boot Camp, and Storytime Express for kids. You can check the full summer calendar by clicking here.
As is basically par for the course with most libraries, Carmel has a Summer Reading Program. They offer different levels of reading programs depending on your age. For example, you can click here to read about young adult program geared towards kids in grades 6-12.
The other exciting development for the Carmel Library this summer is the recent addition of Little Free Libraries. These little kiosks are set up in posts outdoors, filled with books, and set out for anyone to stop by and peruse. You can pick up a book and bring it back when you are finished (or even add another to share if you want). There are no due dates and no fines with these Little Free Libraries, as they rely on the honor and honesty of our Cheapster readers. You can find these posts at three locations for now:
- 10701 N. College Avenue
- 2700 W. 116th Street
- 11675 Hazel Dell Parkway
Check back tomorrow and every other day this week for information on upcoming summer schedules on our local libraries.
