Second Helpings, if you haven’t heard of them, is a self-described community kitchen. More than a mere soup kitchen or food pantry, Second Helpings is all about helping people transform their lives for the better. To accomplish this goal, they partner with local businesses (this month is Reis Nichols in particular) to hold fundraisers. Given the big football game coming up, it’s highly appropriate that the next big fundraising event Second Helpings is hosting is called Souper Bowls.
Souper Bowls is a particularly interesting fundraiser that takes place on Saturday, January 26. First of all, you have the opportunity to purchase a handmade ceramic bowl from a local artist. Then, you can also sample soup offerings from some of the best chefs in all of Central Indiana. The price to attend is $5, and you can purchase them online (by following our blue text link above) or at the door. The $5 buys you entry to the event, as well as five different soup tastings from chefs that include:
Greg Hardesty – Recess
DeWitt Jackson – Indianapolis Colts
Kathy Jones – Iozzo’s Garden of Italy
Luke Caenepeel – Pogue’s Run Grocer
Anass Sentissi – Saffron Cafe
Jason Anderson – The Chef’s Academy
Peter-Paul Meyer – Hilton 120 West Fresh Market Grill
Roger Hawkins – Circle City Soups
Kathy Jones – Iozzo’s Garden of Italy
Ryan Nelson – Late Harvest Kitchen
Stuart Robertson – MacNiven’s
Miguel Cordero – The Northside Social
Sam Brown – Second Helpings
Dave Foegley – St. Elmo Steak House
David Polakoff – Michael’s Southshore
Eddie Sahm – Sahm’s Place
Sunil Deo – Sunny D’s Cafe
The doors will open Saturday for art viewing at 11:00 a.m., while the soup tastings last from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Remember to vote for your favorite soup after tasting, as votes will be counted and the esteemed victorious chef will receive a trophy. Plus, at the end of the day, your attendance goes toward a great cause.
