Ahoy, one of the most beloved obscure holidays has come around again. Matey, you know we be referrin’ to Talk Like a Pirate Day. You don’t need no map to find treasured deals, discounts, and freebies, as we landlubbers at Indianapolis on the Cheap arrrrr more than happy to tell you about them.
We’ll revert back to normal English for the rest of this post, but keep such terms as “avast” (meaning watch out), “Step smartly” (get out of my way), and of course “Garr” (could mean just about anything) in mind when you take advantage of these offers. The first is at Long John Silver’s, the seafood fast food restaurant. LJS is celebrating Talk Like a Pirate Day on Thursday, September 19. During regular business hours, walk the plank to the counter and talk like a pirate (“arrr” gets it done) to earn a FREE piece of white fish with any other meal purchase.
Then, head to The Children’s Museum on Saturday, September 21. From 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., staff will be on hand to teach kids of all ages how to speak like a pirate. The whole family can enjoy special activities that celebrate the swashbucklin’ pirates of the old days.
But wait – what if you’re out of town right now and reading this post from somewhere without a Long John Silver’s (or obviously The Children’s Museum)? Fear not, as long as you have a Krispy Kreme where you are (sadly, Indy doesn’t have one). Just for today (Thursday, September 19), anyone who talks like a pirate gets a FREE glazed doughnut. If you’re bold enough to wear full pirate attire when you go, you’ll get a FREE dozen glazed doughnuts. Just make sure to leave any weapons at home, matey.
Finally, if you leave a comment here on this thread, we’ll choose a winner at random to give away an ebook of The Rogue’s Prize, a pirate’s treasure of a novel by Katherine Bone. The catch? You have to write it in pirate speak, me laddie!
