Whether you consider yourself an artist or are just looking for a fun craft to challenge yourself, you have plenty of choices to indulge your creative juices at the Indianapolis Art Center. Between now and December 16, they are offering over 20 different art samplers in the form of pop-ups. For a small fee, you can register to attend a popup and create a work of art with help from experts. They usually last around one or two hours, falling into categories for adults, teenagers, families, and even pets. We’ll highlight a few of the upcoming sessions, but you should click here to see the full list.
Stained Glass Garland: This family-oriented pop-up lasts from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday November 17, and registration is $10 for kids (adults are FREE). The instructor is Valorie Flaherty, a self-taught seamstress who studied fashion illustration at Ball State University. The project involves using everyday materials to create holiday garlands.
Glass Ornaments: This pop-up meets from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday December 2, and welcomes anyone aged 10 or older. The cost is $50, but you will take home a unique glass ornament from the Glass Blowing Studio when you are finished. The instructor is Matt Kenyon, who has been blowing glass at the Art Center since 1998. He graduated with a degree in Furniture Design in 2008 at IUPUI.
Sculptural Art: This pop-up is geared toward teenagers aged 13 to 17. It meets from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday December 15, and costs $20. Teens will create 3D sculptures using pieces of wood with paint and glue. Some sculptures could be free standing while others will hang on a wall. The instructor is Myra Perrin, who graduated with a degree in Interior Design from Butler. She is also a member of the Women’s Woodworking Guild of Indiana.
