Lets get the obvious pun out of the way – this post puts a smile on all our faces. The concept of helping veterans isn’t all that unique (luckily), but this isn’t your standard fundraising event. This is a community service sponsored by the Indiana Dental Association AIR Leadership group and the Indianapolis Dental District dentists. They are calling it Operation Soldier Smiles, and we think that’s a perfect name.
From 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, veterans who live in Johnson County and either do not already have a dentist or don’t have dental insurance. Given how much veterans have done to protect our freedoms, the least we can do is protect their smiles. If you are a veteran or you know veterans among your friends and family who can benefit from this service, we encourage you to call Dr. Renee Shirer at (317) 605-9387 to schedule your appointment.
These appointments will likely fill up quickly, so you’ll want to call sooner rather than later. After that, veterans will need to bring two items to their appointments. These items include discharge papers (Dd2164) and a driver’s license. Finally, the FREE screening will include an exam and X-ray, but any follow-up treatment will be referred to a separate appointment with a dentist who can perform those treatments at no cost.
