We’re quickly approaching another holiday weekend. If you guessed Indianapolis 500 weekend, you’re technically correct. But we’re actually referring to Memorial Day weekend. Just like what usually happens, many retail stores see an opportunity on a holiday weekend to offer sales that will bring our Cheapsters in for their shopping fixes on a budget. So, before you head to the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, keep these stores and their discounts in mind:
Best Buy: The technology toy store is holding a Memorial Day sale, but the event lasts far longer than this weekend. It actually started a week ago on Thursday, May 16 and will continue through Saturday, June 1. Basically, major appliances are 10-30% off, and floor care and countertop microwaves are 10-20% off. Additionally, you can enjoy FREE delivery, haul away, and recycling on purchases of $429 or more.
Aeropostale: A clothing store marketing to both guys and girls, the Aeropostale Memorial Day Sale involves everything being 50% off. More specifically, that means you can purchase camis, tanks, henleys, and t-shirts for $5 each, as well as shorts for $15.
Sears: If you’re looking more for outdoor items than clothing or technology, Sears is the place to go for your lawn and garden supplies. They are all up to 25% off between now and Tuesday, May 28.
OfficeMax: This Memorial Day sale ends earlier than most of the others on this list, so we encourage you to take advantage of it before it ends on Saturday, May 25. The sale takes place online and in stores, and you can save up to 70% on office furniture and supplies.
Inspired Stamps, a cardmaking stamp company owned by Indianapolis designer Antoinette Herrin, is offering a discount on all of its military and patriotic acrylic stamps during this holiday weekend. The collection is here.
Gassing up? 7-11 is selling Slurpees for .49 cents through May 27.
For veterans who present their ID:
Jo-Ann: The fabric and craft store is rolling out a military salute for anyone who has served in the armed forces. Present your military or dependent ID for 20% off your total purchase, including regular-, sale-, and clearance items from Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27. (Yep, we said clearance items. Regular citizens only get 10% off with a coupon on regular and sale items.) That’s good in-store only, so online shoppers will need to find another discount avenue. It’s also not applicable on sewing machines or gift cards. But hey, you didn’t want those anyhow.
24Hour Fitness: active duty, retirees, reservists and veterans work out free Memorial Day weekend.
Both Home Depot and Lowe’s offer 10% discounts for all veterans in addition to the everyday discount for active duty, reservists, retirees and disabled veterans.
On Monday, May 27, shoppers with a valid military ID or proof of service will receive 15% off off eligible store items at Walgreens and 20% off their store brand items.
Circle City Transportation offers veteran discounts year round.
