As far as months go, we like May. We’re far enough away from winter that we’ve officially thawed out from the cold. At the same time, we haven’t reached the brutal heat of summer yet either. Plus, the month of May is always special here in Indy because it’s the month of the greatest spectacle in racing. Before we can reach the Indianapolis 500, however, we’re happy to present our first Weekend Top Five cheap and FREE things to do in Indy.
Elbow Room Art Fest – More than ten local artists will be on hand at the Elbow Room for an art festival from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2. You’ll find plenty of photography, jewelry, paintings, and more. It’s FREE to enter this art festival, and you can enjoy great drink samplings throughout the evening. In the meantime, with all the art on display, you might just find a fun gift for the first woman in your life for Mother’s Day.
Pilsung ATA Bully Challenge – We ran a post earlier this week about registering for the summer program at Pilsung, but they have a FREE event going on this weekend. The action takes place from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 3. The main attraction is the Pilsung Extreme Challenge, featuring contests of speed, endurance, skill, and power. The winners of each of these contests will win prizes. In the middle of the challenges, they will also be offering their “Agent G” Bully Prevention seminar. For more information, click the link to read more on the Pilsung website.
Indie Arts and Vintage Marketplace – If you’re in the market for anything vintage, antique, and unique, you won’t want to miss this shopping entry on our weekend top five. More than 100 vendors will be on hand at the Glendale Town Center from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3. Admission is only $5 (and FREE for kids aged 18 or younger), and you’re practically guaranteed to find something fun and unique that you just have to have.
Comics at Half Price Books – While it costs too much to warrant a spot on our weekend top five, The Amazing Spiderman 2 enters theaters this weekend. Perhaps that is the motivation behind this freebie at participating Half Price Books locations. All day on Saturday, May 3, you can get a FREE comic book with any in-store purchase. Whether you opt for a Spidey comic or something entirely different, it’s a great day to visit Half Price Books.
Regal Cinemas – Speaking of Spiderman, Regal Cinemas takes the final spot. Going to the movies isn’t generally a cheap option, but you can save some on your entertainment if you really want to see the web-slinger on the silver screen in his opening weekend. Click the Regal Cinemas link in this paragraph to grab a coupon that you can use once per day this entire month to take $3 off a soft drink purchase at Regal.
