Back in 1939, a woman named Maxine Redmon met Ollie Bunnel. The two married and raised a family of ten kids in a house that had only four rooms. During this time, Maxine’s culinary skills grew as she cooked for St. Francis Hospital for 30 years. In 2007, Ollie and Maxine’s children and grandchildren came together to establish a restaurant that showcased Maxine’s food and also reflected the family’s values. Today, that restaurant is Maxine’s Chicken and Waffles, and it is celebrating its fifth anniversary this week.
The menu consists of home-style cooking including (you guessed it) chicken and waffles. You can also find catfish, tilapia, omelets, burgers, chicken salad, and more. Just for this week, however, we recommend visiting for lunch. Between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day this week through Friday, August 16, you can enjoy Maxine’s special for the fifth anniversary. For just $12, enjoy lunch for two from a special menu.
Maxine’s Chicken and Waffles is located at 132 N. East Street in Indianapolis.
