Okay, so that’s stretching it a bit. As Saxony Beach is actually a lake, you aren’t going to have the sort of waves you need to actually go surfing. Still, Saxony Beach is as close to a vacation to the beach as you can take here in Central Indiana without having to travel a long way. Located in Fishers along Pennington Road off of 131st Street, Saxony Beach is a 20-acre man-made lake complete with sand.
Now that the temperatures are spiking 80 degrees and spring is giving way into summer, Saxony Beach is quickly becoming a paradise. It’s completely FREE, only requiring you to sign in at the beach house. The lake area is open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day except for Mondays, so you can check it out on a weekday or over the weekend. You’ll find kayaks, peddle boats, fishing, and of course plenty of room to swim. For concerned parents, lifeguards are on duty and keeping watch over the kids. All you have to do is remember to bring your sunscreen, umbrella, and towels to protect yourself from the sun.
Now that you’re excited and planning to visit, just keep in mind the last couple of rules you’ll need to follow. The only balls allowed are soft Nerf-style balls, so don’t bring legitimate footballs to throw around. Also, no pets are allowed, so you’ll have to leave your puppy behind. Finally, all children under the age of 16 must have an adult with them to swim at Saxony Beach. Beyond that, come ready for a great time at the closest thing to Florida we have here in Indy.
