While not as famous of a chain as Subway or Jimmy John’s, Blimpie has lasted for decades by providing quality sandwiches at affordable prices. Blimpie was originally born on April 4, 1964 in Hoboken, New Jersey. Three friends with a mutual entrepreneurial spirit introduced their take on the submarine sandwich. As for the name, they saw a picture of the word “blimp” in the dictionary and thought their generous-sized sandwiches somewhat resembled the pictured blimp.

Fast forward to today and Blimpie is still doing a steady business. They have five locations here in Indianapolis, and the prices have remained relatively low.
