The biggest racing event in the world is just about here, and we know the race fans among our Cheapsters can hardly wait. We can’t move the race up for you, but we can let you know about an opportunity to whet your appetite with the Hoosier Hundred. If you head to the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Thursday, May 23, you can take in some racing action before the Indianapolis 500 starts.
The Hoosier Hundred offers a smaller and more intimate mile-long dirt track set up at Hoosier Lottery Grandstand within the Indiana State Fairgrounds. A competition lasting 100 laps, the Hoosier 100 dates back to 1953 and is one of the longest-running traditions associated with the Indianapolis 500. Just because it’s a the precursor to the Indianapolis 500 doesn’t mean that the best drivers ignore it, either. Former champions of the Hoosier 100 include AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti, Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon.
The gates open for the Hoosier Hundred at 3:00 p.m. The qualifying takes place at 6:00 p.m., with the race itself starting at 8:00 p.m. Adult tickets cost $30 on race day, but you can buy tickets before race day for just $25. Also, children under the age of 12 can enjoy the race for just $10. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets for the Hoosier Hundred before you enjoy the Indianapolis 500 this weekend.
