The Fishers Public Library seems to have grasped a cultural fact – Star Wars is really big right now. Kids of all ages (some kids at heart even stretching into their 50s and 60s) are in love with the Force and the lightsaber duelists who wield it. Disney recently purchase LucasArts, and the promise of Star Wars Episode VII coming out in a couple of years has only ratcheted up the Star Wars love and excitement.
As such, the Fishers Public Library is hoping to channel that excitement into a festival this weekend. You can drop by the Fisher Library (located at Five Municipal Drive in Fishers) from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 to enjoy the Star Wars Festival. Appropriately, May 4 is known nationwide as Star Wars Day (think of the slight alteration to the famous line: “May the ‘fourth’ be with you to understand why).
You’re always welcome to check out one of the vast collection of Star Wars books from the library, but it isn’t every day you can take part in a lightsaber obstacle course or play Star Wars video games. In addition to ongoing activities throughout the day, here are some time-specific events to be aware of:
11:00 a.m. – Star Wars: The Clone Wars
1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Face painting
2:00 p.m. – Costumer contest judging (so make sure to dress up as your favorite character)
2:00 – 4:00 p.m. – Meet Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion
3:00 p.m. – Star Wars Fair Display judging
Come by the Fishers Library this Saturday and enjoy all the fun. Even if your father is a Sith Lord in a terrifying black mask, you’re still welcome at one of the coolest libraries in the galaxy.
