We admire all the US Presidents, though Martin Van Buren’s muttonchops have a special place in our hearts.
It doesn’t receive near as much press as Valentine’s Day, but Presidents’ Day is a great time to reflect on the 44 people who have led this nation as the Commander in Chief. Presidents’ Day lines up closely with the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, but we pay tribute to everyone who has led what we consider to be the greatest nation in the world. So, from Washington to McKinley, from Hayes to Coolidge, and from Reagan to Obama, we salute our presidents on Monday, February 17.
Of course, part of being an American president is believing in the American Dream of liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Money alone won’t make you happy, but we imagine that saving you some won’t hurt. For that reason, we want to highlight a couple of activities you can enjoy on the cheap for Presidents’ Day. Coincidentally, both come to us from the Fishers area.
You can start the day at Connor Prairie, which offers FREE admission for Presidents’ Day. It shouldn’t be a big surprise that this park dedicated to History (often specifically American History) is observing the holiday. They will be open for business from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and you and your family can see what life was like for presidents in the past.
Once you’ve finished your time at Connor Prairie, you can make a quick drive over to the Logan Street Sanctuary for the Presidents’ Day Musical Jam. From 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday February 17, you can enjoy and even participate in a jam with local musicians. The festivities are organized by Nickel Plate Arts, and like Connor Prairie offers you all the fun for FREE. No matter who your favorite president is, we can all be united in a fun day recognizing our leaders of the past, present, and future.
