If you live near Indianapolis, you know that May is the month of the Indy 500. The race may take place on one day, but the month leading up to the Indy 500 is full of festivals of parties. It’s the biggest event of the year for Indianapolis, and we know our Cheapsters recognize the magic of May. All of these celebrations have to start somewhere, and Main Street in Speedway seems the most appropriate place to kick off the celebrations with Festival on Main.
Long before the Indy 500 itself, the Festival on Main takes place on Friday, May 10. Speedway’s Main Street will be transformed this week in preparation for the family-friendly event that celebrates the upcoming Indy 500. If you come by on Friday, you’ll enjoy live music, unique food and beer presentations, shows involving cars and motorcycles, and other activities. You can even spot some Indy 500 drivers and other local celebrities participating in the Celebrity Dunk Tank.
If you bring the kids, they can enjoy the KidZone. This area will offer bounce houses, an obstacle course, face painting, sumo-wrestling suits, and more. Attending the Festival on Main is FREE in and of itself, but you can also purchase an unlimited play wristband for $10 or a family pack for $25.
This is the first time for Festival on Main, but everyone is excited to welcome this event to the Indy 500 lead-up. The event lasts from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the money raised from the event will go to the Indy Family Foundation. And in case it isn’t circled in red on your calendar yet, the Indy 500 itself takes place on Sunday, May 26.
