Polo at Sunset is coming up this week, and you are all invited to attend. But lets back up for a moment. In case you were under the impression that “polo” is just a term for a type of collared shirt, you should check out Hickory Hall Polo Club. As it turns out, the sport of polo has been in the Indianapolis area for more than 50 years, but the only outdoor polo club in the state of Indiana is now the Hickory Hall Polo Club (now in its 20th season).
Polo is somewhat like a mix between soccer and golf while riding horseback. Teams on horseback try to score goals against the other team by whacking a little white ball with mallets that they hold. It’s truly a fascinating game to watch.
Hickory Hall believes in giving back to the community, with 98% of its home matches benefiting various Indiana charities. That is true this week as well with Polo at Sunset, which takes place on Friday, June 14, and costs only $20 per carload to attend. That means if you pile five people into your trusty SUV, all of you can attend for just $4 each. The whole family can enjoy a picnic with your own blanket, food, and beverages while you take in the sport.
Best of all, the funds raised will benefit Every Dog Counts Rescue. You can bring your own dogs in the spirit of the event, but they must be on leashes and you should probably ask yourself ahead of time if your pooch is going to be terrified by the sight of galloping horses. The gates for Polo at Sunset will open at 5:00 p.m., and you can enjoy some awesome silent auction items while learning more Every Dog Counts Rescue. Then, the polo match begins at 6:15 p.m. Hickory Hall Polo Club is located at 7551 East 100 North in Whitestown.
