Last week, we ran a post detailing the newly-implemented Balance Rewards program at Walgreens. It only seems fair and in the spirit of lively competition that we let you in on the reply from their rival CVS Pharmacy. After all, you win when businesses compete for you. Unlike its competitor, CVS has had its ExtraBucks Rewards program in place for 15 years. As always, you can sign up to join this program either in-store or online by following this link. The general idea is that you receive 2% back on all purchases at CVS Pharmacy. What you receive back can be used as “free CVS money” to spend on most things in the store.
In response to the new Walgreens option, however, CVS is sweetening ExtraBucks by doubling the reward payout. Between now and December 15, ExtraBucks members will receive 4% back on all purchases instead of 2%. Conveniently, this means that you can double up on rewards points while you’re busy spending for the holidays. CVS boasts that what sets its rewards system apart is its simplicity. You can earn rewards points on just about any purchase, even if it isn’t on sale. You can also spend those accumulated points on almost anything, including on trips where you are racking up more ExtraBucks rewards.
So, as enamored as you may have been with the new Walgreens Balance Reward system, keep in mind those double rewards between now and December 15 with CVS ExtraBucks as you budget.
