When you think of Conner Prairie, you probably think of an educational experience best designed for kids between the ages of eight and fifteen. After all, history (even of the interactive sort) requires a certain level of maturity. However, Conner Prairie does have a program designed specifically for younger kids between the ages of two and five. This program is called Prairie Tykes.
We have two separate and unrelated Prairie Tykes events to let you know about. The first is a Mommy Time Out from 10:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 23. If you have a busy schedule ahead of you and need a break, you can bring your child to Conner Prairie and drop him or her off for a couple of hours to attend to your errands. Your little Prairie Tyke will enjoy stories, songs, and crafts along with a snack. Just be aware that you will need to sign a waiver and that your child must be potty-trained to attend.
The second is an ongoing set of classes for Prairie Tykes at Conner Prairie. From 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on select Fridays, you can interact with your little one while taking part in the special activity of the day. You can follow the link for full details on which events to expect which days. Some examples of activities to come include flying a kite, making birds’ nests, making a garden craft especially for Mom for Mother’s Day, etc.
Whether you are interested in the Mommy Time Out, the ongoing Prairie Tykes classes, or both, here’s some information they have in common: Sessions cost $11 for members or $12 for non-members (only charged for the kids, not the adults). You’ll also need to register ahead of time by calling Conner Prairie Guest Services at 317-776-6006.
