We have some sad news as of now. Most of Halloween has been washed out and sent to Friday’s calendar. But not everything is rained out. Here is what we know at press time:
Scare in the Square – Fountain Square is organizing a FREE community Halloween event (sponsored by the Fountain Square Merchants Association). You can bring your young ghouls and goblins to follow the Trick-or-Treat Trail around Fountain Square from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 31. Participating merchants will be passing out goodies during that time. [confirmed, still on as of midnight]
After your trick-or-treat session is complete, you can stick around and head to Game Paradise for more spooky fun. Costumed kids aged 12 and under will receive FREE admission to this gaming center. Accompanying parents in costume will receive 50% off as well, making it a great deal for the whole family to warm up and have fun after the trick-or-treat portion concludes. They are also passing out goodie bags with treats and toys for the kids ,with coupons for adults. Want the really good news? This deal has been extended to include Friday as well. [confirmed, still on as of midnight]
Safe Night at the Fairgrounds – This annual party starts at 7:00 p.m. on Halloween night. Any child under the age of 12 years old is invited to this evening of fun, safety, creativity, health, and education at the State Fairgrounds, but the emphasis is on inner-city children. Many not-for-profit organizations are coming together to support these children and their parents with trick-or-treat fun.
Pure Eatery Contests – Pure Eatery, located at 1043 Virginia Avenue, has placed more emphasis on Halloween fun for adult Cheapsters. They are holding their first ever Halloween costume and pumpkin carving contests. Your can bring your pre-carved pumpkin in by 9:15 p.m. to have it registered for the contest beginning at 9:30 p.m. The Costume Contest begins at 10:00 p.m. The prizes are awesome, and are as follows:
- 1st Place in Costume Contest – $100 in cash
- 2nd Place in Costume Contest – $20 Pure Eatery gift certificate
- 1st Place in Pumpkin Carving Contest – $100 in gift certificates from local restaurants
- 2nd Place in in Pumpkin Carving Contest – Fun prizes still to be announced [confirmed; still on as of midnight]
Home Place Halloween at Mercy Road on North College Avenue has FREE Chik-fil-A on tap, a live DJ and plenty of candy ready to roll. Come in costume for the contest and plan to enjoy the photo booth, bounce houses and video game truck. The church event is billed as a family affair and is open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m; please follow the link to RSVP for your drawstring trick-or-treat bag filled with candy. [confirmed, still on]
But contrary to what you might think, the malls —the indoor icons of Indy — are NOT participating in trick-or-treating tonight. Greenwood Park Mall and Washington Square Mall have postponed their Mall-o-Ween events until Friday evening, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Ditto Castleton Square Mall, but their merchants will pass out candy from 4 to 6 pm tomorrow. [confirmed]
Finally, if you are taking part in the Castleton Square Mall-O-Ween now on Friday evening, we advise you to stop by the Lego Store. Kids wearing their costumes will receive a FREE monster keychain while supplies last on Halloween. It offers kids all the fun of trick-or-treat gathering without the extra sugar.
