If you’re headed Downtown the rest of this month, you should take a little time to go see Monument Circle. The Circle of Lights kicked off downtown at approximately 7:45 p.m. on Friday November 23. For the past 50 years, Circle of Lights has been the centerpiece of our city’s holiday decorations. Best of all for those of you who enjoy taking in the beautiful lights and scenery of the season, the Circle of Lights is FREE.
This holiday juggarnaut features a grand total of 4,784 lights as well as 52 strands of garland. If you head to Monument Circle, you will see lights ascending up to the top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the form of a giant Christmas tree. While that particular decoration is the highlight, you can also take pictures of the 26 giant toy soldiers and sailors. 26 peppermint sticks also surround the Circle while the trees all feature numerous tiny lights. While the display is enjoyable all day, we encourage you to head down after dark to see the lights truly stand out.
If you want to take in the best holiday display in the entire city, you can’t beat the Circle of Lights. We’re sure you’ll have a merry time if you head downtown before January 6, 2013.
