Every year, Armed Forces Day falls on the third Saturday in May. This year, that means Armed Forces Day is Saturday May 18. May as a whole is a month dedicated to Military Awareness. After all, Memorial Day is the next weekend in line. Before we reach that particular holiday, however, Armed Forces Day offers an opportunity for current military and veterans to take advantage of some discounts and freebies around town while being recognized as the heroes they are. We know of three places in particular that are recognizing Armed Forces Day.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway: The second day of qualifications is known as Bump Day. This is an opportunity for drivers to try to “bump” the drivers ahead of them down with great qualification times to secure their spots in the Indianapolis 500. In addition to it being Bump Day, however, it is also Armed Forces Day. In honor of all those who have served, the Motor Speedway will admit all members of the military for FREE. Just wear your uniform or show your military ID at the gate. Once inside, you can take a look at the wide assortment of military vehicles on display.
Tijuana Flats: The Mexican restaurant located at 7834 East 96th Street in Fishers is recognizing our hometown heroes as well. Veterans and active military who show valid ID can enjoy 50% off an entree on Armed Forces Day.
Big Lots: One of the biggest closeout shopping centers in the nation, Big Lots has annually recognized Armed Forces Day for many years. This year is no different, as they are offering 10% off of qualifying in-store purchases (including items on sale or clearance) to all active, reserve, and retired service members who show military ID.
