It’s about time to do that happy jig at the end of the work week. We’re just a day or two away from another awesome weekend, and there are festivities aplenty here in Indy. We’ll let you know about the top six we’ve found for the crowd that enjoys entertainment on the cheap (or even for FREE in some cases). In case you need another reason to celebrate the coming holiday, here’s our weekend roundup:
Friday Night Swing Dance – The Fountain Square Theatre holds Friday Night Swing Dance the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month (in case you aren’t able to attend this weekend but are interested in trying it in the future). The evening offers plenty of family-friendly fun for anyone middle-school age or older. You can pay $12 to attend the dance lesson from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and stick around for the rest of the evening until 11:30 p.m., or you can pay just $10 and skip the hour-long class.
Santa on the Square – Speaking of Fountain Square, the big man himself will be visiting at 10:00 a.m. Saturday December 13. Anyone visiting can meet Santa and have pictures taken with him. There will also be carriage rides available and plenty of fun and games for the younger Cheapsters. Santa will be around until noon. During that same time, you can visit the Fountain Square Library to make a frame for your picture, decorate a cookie, an enjoy the seasonal displays.
Christmas on the Farm – Traders Point Creamery (located in Zionsville) transforms into a winter wonderland for this Christmas extravaganza. Children 11 and younger can enjoy Christmas on the Farm for FREE, while adults pay just $5. Starting at 9:00 a.m. Saturday December 13, you can enjoy sleigh-hayrides around the farm, music, caroling, craft-making, and a Holiday Green Market where you can finish shopping for stocking stuffers.
Family Drum Circle – If you’ve never visited the Rhythm! Discovery Center, you’re missing out on a great musical experience in our city. This Saturday is a particularly great time, as the normal cost of admission will grant you access to the Family Drum Circle. This special event starts at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, and it promises to be a fun time for people of all ages. If you have your own instrument, bring it with you. If not, Rhythm! can provide many for the occasion. Everyone will be able to play music together during the Family Drum Circle. You don’t have to be a Shepherd Boy to play your best this time of year.
Greenwood Public Library Block Party – On the other hand, maybe you’re just looking for a little quiet time this weekend. If you have kids and want to know of a way to ensure they have a good time while you relax, the Greenwood Public Library is holding a Block Party for kids starting at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. The afternoon will consist of FREE play with supervision and plenty of games to play.
Rejoice! Holiday Concert – Clowes Memorial Hall is playing host to the Butler music ensembles, meaning brilliant music from collegiate performers. These concerts are gifts to the community, and are FREE to attend. The shows start at 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday this weekend. While you won’t have to pay to attend, you will be required to obtain tickets to ensure the shows aren’t above capacity. You are limited to four tickets per order, and you can reserve tickets either via the Clowes Hall website or by calling (317) 940-6444.
