Our normal weekly routine is to announce our top five ideas for what to do over the weekend for fun on the cheap. This weekend, however, we just couldn’t limit ourselves to five ideas. That’s how awesome this weekend is shaping up to be, and we’re confident that just about all of our Cheapsters will see something on our list they’d like to do. With no further ado, here are our top seven ideas for the fourth August weekend:
Greenwood Park Mall Beer Tasting – This is the first of a couple of ideas that require you to be over t21. Payless Liquor Stores (at the Greenwood Park Mall location) is offering a variety of seasonal beers for a tasting session. Come by between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 22, and you can try some of these flavors:
- Redd’s Apple Ale Wicked Ale
- Crispin Cider
- Blue Moon Belgium White
- Blue Moon Harvest Pumpkin
- Leinenkugels Hoppin Hellis
Chateau Got Talent – We had to include this one just because the name of the event is so awesome. Chateau Thomas Wine Bar and Gift Shoppe is holding an Open Mic Night from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday, August 22. All you have to bring is your own talent. Whether you prefer to sing, perform comedy, or something else entirely with a microphone, come show your stuff. While you’re there, you can make an evening of it with Chateau wines and pizza. Chateau Thomas Wine Bar and Gift Shoppe is located at 8235 E. 116th Street in Fishers.
Indy Eleven – One of the deals surrounding Devour Downtown (click the link to see our post about Devour Downtown deals) involves the World’s Game. For just $25, you can obtain a Brickyard Batallion game ticket to watch the Indy Eleven soccer match at Carroll Stadium Saturday, August 23. The package also includes entry for the craft beer tasting event on the stadium’s East Lawn from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. before the match. This is the second of our “must be 21 or older” deals this weekend. To purchase your soccer and craft beer tickets, just follow the following link:
Splash Clash Celebration – The Crit Crew gaming community is holding this first annual Splash Cash Celebration at Old Town Park (located at 310 E. South Street in Mooresville). If you want to attend, all you’ll need to bring is a side dish or dessert to pitch in. The Crit Crew will also be taking donations for activities. While you’re there, you can socialize with others in the community and have fun with buckets of water balloons. It will be a wet and wild afternoon Sunday, August 24. (This is a new date; the original was moved thanks to a rain forecast.) . The event starts at 11:00 a.m. and lasts until they are out of balloons. Families and pets are all invited for this fun time.
Dog Day Afternoon – Speaking of pets, Dog Day Afternoon is a day full of shopping, food, entertainment, and family fun that all centers on the unique bond we share with our canine companions. This event features Woofstock, a live Fishers Police K9 Demo, and of course the Parade of Paws. Registation for this fundraiser dog walk starts Saturday, August 23 at 12:45 p.m., with the parade taking off at 1:30 p.m. The rest of the Dog Day Afternoon lasts from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If you and your pup would enjoy perusing over 100 vendors, sampling great food, and cooling off at the Curran Architecture Cool Zone, make sure you pad over to the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater in Fishers. This event costs only $5, and kids aged ten and younger are FREE.
Beer and Bluegrass Festival – From 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday ,August 22, Monroe Street in Franklin invites you to enjoy the Beer and Bluegrass Festival. There will be plenty of fun activities for the kids, too.
Georgia Street Tailgate – Finally, our Indianapolis Colts are back in action at Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend against the New Orleans Saints. This is still a preseason game, but that isn’t going to stop us fans from enjoying the football atmosphere. 93.1 WIBC-FM invites you to join them on Georgia Street from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday ,August 23 for the Bud Light Tailgate before the game.
